If your anything like me then you have an everlasting itch for adventure! I am a Millennial Sagittarius mama bear who is constantly looking for epic places to show my kids. My need for adventure has turned into a lifestyle and my personality has given me the desire to constantly push the boundaries of my comfort zone. But wait if that is the total opposite of you please keep reading because Red Rock Canyon is still the place for you! I am going to spill the tea about an awesome adventure that is only 17 miles west of the Las Vegas Strip and in my opinion it is a total must see!
Now if your visiting Las Vegas or you are a local, bright lights and casinos may not be all that and a bag of chips all the time. Throw 3 kids under 6 into the mix and you have yourself a responsibility as the coolest mom or dad to deliver when it comes to said adventures. My kids definitely don’t want to watch mommy and daddy gamble while standing on the designated kid carpet, not to mention the moans and groans when they step foot into the smoke infested air filling some of the older Las Vegas Casinos. Vacation? I think not! Trust me when I say it is not the business! So I highly recommend taking a different route on your vacation or stay-cation.
Red Rock Canyon is located at 1000 Scenic Loop Dr, Las Vegas, NV 89161 and is home to some of the most breathtaking scenic hikes in the silver state! if your not big on hiking, not to worry simply park your car at one of the parking lots and its merely a short walk to see the beauty through your own eyes. Not only that but you can drive through the entire park and engulf yourself with amazing views without leaving your car. There you will see the beauty just as close as you would climbing through trails. Make sure to grab a map on your way in that will easily guide you to the best spots to park your car and don’t forget your camera, no filter needed!
Red Rock Canyon is 100% amazing and can be enjoyed in a few short hours or you can create the best day trip as you experience the freedom away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Feed your soul lately? Nature is known to kick start those happy thoughts and feelings we long for on some days. Scientists are beginning to find evidence that being in nature has a profound impact on our brains and our behavior, helping us to reduce anxiety, brooding, and stress, and increase our attention capacity, creativity, and our ability to connect with other people. So next time your in Las Vegas serve your soul a really big Red Rock bowl of nature and enjoy all the benefits it has to offer. Not to mention the best part, it wont cost you an arm and a leg to really enjoy some much needed family fun.
The scenic drive is $15 per vehicle and is open from 6 am to 5 pm daily. I feel like it is such an amazing place to take the kiddos! My 3 dare devils ages 2, 4, and 6 managed to happily hike, climb, run, and induce me with mini heart attacks several times as we took all the beauty in. We started our hike around 2 pm and enjoyed ourselves until the very last drop of sunlight. The cherry on top was the remarkable sight of the sun setting on the red peaks of the canyon needless to say we were not disappointed.
These mesmerizing sights far outshine the glitter and glam of the Las Vegas Strip any day. The adventure is literally in your backyard if you are a local here and it is a must see! If you are traveling here dont sleep on this amazing place and definitely make a day of it.
